The Books

I got the idea for my first book after reading Over in the Meadow, a traditional Southern Appalachian counting rhyme dating back to the late 1800s. I knew the rhyme would be a great format to showcase the wild animals my preschool students saw all around them out on the tundra. It was hard deciding which ten animals to include and which to leave out so I split the animals into two groups and wrote a book for each. Down by the River was published first and Out on the Tundra came a few years later.  Both books have been selected by Alaska librarians for the state Battle of the Books program.
