One night my mom made cookies for the family at about 12:00. Then a bear was at the back door! It almost broke the door down! It tore our kitchen screen down. My mom was in her room going to sleep and she heard the noise from the bear so she yelled out "Quit messing around in the bathroom!"
I said "It’s not any of us kids!"
Then she saw the bear out the window so we all went to the living room to wait ‘til the bear left.

There were two cubs and a mom. The mom went to the river to get some fish and blueberries. When the cubs saw the mom they ran to her. Then they started to eat the fish and blueberries. Then a big bear came at night and the mom heard the big bear and they started to fight!

One day I was playing outside in my yard with my little sister Allease. My sister and I heard a noise. We went to go check to see what was there. We sawn a bear on the tundra eating berries! Then suddenly the bear started to growl at my sister and me. We started running as fast as we could but my sister could not run fast so I picked my sister up to carry her. That made me trip over a rock. My sister kept saying “Hurry up! Get up! Get up!” Then I was finally able to get up and we made it inside the house. We told our mom there was a bear chasing us so my mom hurried to lock the door. Then she said "You can’t go outside till tomorrow!"

One day when I was at Stephannie's house I went out to her mom’s jeep to hide from her. Her mom, Wanda, saw me out there and told me to come back in and I said “No!“ A few minutes later I decided to go in. Stephannie had left the trunk of the jeep wide open. When I got in the house it was time to drive to King Salmon so we went out the door. There were two baby bears in the jeep! We ran back into the house and Wanda said “Stephanie, you were lucky you weren’t in the car when that happened!”

One day me my sister and my brother went to this lake to play in the mud. First I asked my dad if we could then he said “Yes, but don’t go in the water.“
Then I said "Okay, let’s go!"
Then we went to the lake. We saw some ducks. We made loud noises. Then a bear came! Then we ran home.

Hi! I'm Nikki O'Hara. I had a very interesting thing happen to me and my friends! We were outside playing on the swingset. We all went up to the playhouse to play. Suddenly we saw a teenage bear! My brother snuck inside the house. Half the time one of the little kids that was with us, whose name is Jaxon, was screaming! Finally we all snuck inside and watched the bear until it left.

One day there was an angry bear. The bear was also very hungry. It was so hungry and mad that it broke into the school cafeteria and it ate tons of the school’s food. It ate a gallon of sugar! That’s a lot! I could never eat that much sugar! Well that’s my story and hope you liked it!

One day my friends and I were playing. We were having lots of fun. Then suddenly my friend’s mom said “Hey you guys! Come! I see two baby bear cubs!“
So we went to my mom’s room and looked out the window and we saw two baby bear cubs. It was pretty scary because they were really close to our house. Then my friend got so scared that she started to cry. After that the cubs turned around and started getting really close to my house. Then they both left.

One day there were three bears in my front yard. When we opened the door there was one bear in the car. Then after we saw the bears we called my dad. My friend and I hid under my bed. Then one bear left and one of them almost got stuck. Then they all left. I was scared!

We were going to the dump but then we accidentally left the truck door open. A bear went in my truck and it tore up some of my stuff then it went in the back trunk and it ate the trash. That bear went in the truck. We just shot a gun in the air and the bear went away. It came back after a while then my grandpa went and shot up in the air again. My gun wasn't loaded so I couldn't. Then the bear went away. The next day we went fishing and we caught our fish. Then my grandpa hung it up on the sticks on the drying rack and that bear came early in the morning. My grandpa grabbed my gun and it was loaded. Then he went and woke me up and I shot the bear in the leg. It went away and never came back. That's all.

One time about two years ago I was playing outside with my little brother. So we were sitting outside by the bushes. Then we noticed a bear sitting right by Cyrus and me. It sat by us and stared at us. Then our sister started to scream! We looked back and ran! Well, you know how some people say don't run or the bear will get you? Well this bear wasn't like that.! Well, that’s my bear story.

One day my sisters and I went riding on 4-wheelers. We were driving down the trail behind our house when all of a sudden my sisters stopped. I looked up ahead and there was a bear! It was a big bear about 6 feet tall. I'm happy to say it was running away. We went home.

Once I saw a bear in my aunt’s backyard. It was cool. My uncle said it was three years old. I thought it was really big for a three year old. It headed for Jordan's house. My cousin Stephannie started crying. And then she ran screaming to hide under her bed. Stephannie was so scared she started calling Jordan's house on the telephone when my aunt said "Stephannie it is 10:00 at night and you don't need to wake them up just to tell them!”

One time when we were at the Bay of Islands in Katmai National Park some cousins and I were just sitting around watching the fire. Some people were playing on the beach and we heard them yell “A bear! A bear!”
So we went to go check. But first off we were not knowing that my dad’s dog was off his leash! My dad’s dog started to take off running after the bear. Luckily I was able to grab my own dog or else he would have taken off too. Well anyway, Dad’s dog took off and he chased that bear to the other side of the beach. All of a sudden he bit the bear in the butt! Weird though, but he did. After an hour he finally came back and yes, he was smiling like nothing happened, but it did.

We were at the dump watching bears. There were 19 bears there. Then another one came and it was ten feet tall. There were a lot of people there watching bears that night.

One day when I was with my cousin we went up to a hill across this lake. Well my cousin and I were walking around and we went over to a place with a pond and we saw an otter. My cousin and I sat there for hours and we finally decided on a name. We named him Chipper-Chip-Chip. After a bit we left. We thought that probably we'll see the otter the next time we visit the lake.
After about a week or so we went back to the lake with some friends. We were going to have a bonfire. Well when we got there we went to go check out the pond were we had seen the otter before and it was still there. The other friends knew about it because when we went over back at the house when we went the first time we told them about it but they weren't crazy about it.
That was the first otter that I ever named and it was really hard to think of the perfect name but I liked the one we chose. Maybe some day you'll name an otter.

This one time I saw an otter in my dog's mouth. I think it was dead. But anyways, if you read Shawna's story about the otter across the lake, that was the one my dog got.

At the South Naknek turkey shoot we were shooting at the 22 caliber spot and on the lake behind it where you shoot towards there was an otter. Everybody was watching it. When I was up to shoot I looked at it with the scope on the rifle and I was ready to shoot. Then I shot at the target.

One day I went to the turkey shoot. I saw a giant river otter and it looked like it was 6 feet long. It was on the ice sliding into the water and swimming to the beach. Then it would swim back to the ice, climb out, and slide back into the water.

Once in Naknek, Alaska, I, Stacey, had a scary experience with a fox. Well, I guess I should tell the truth. It really happened to my little sister, Valerie, but I was really scared too. It all started outside when we were sledding with our really good friends, Taylor and Thea. All of a sudden we saw a fox! We ran to the top of the hill, but Valerie tried to bring the sled she and Thea had been sledding on. I told her not to bring it so she dropped the string to run up the hill, but her legs got tangled up, so she couldn't move her legs. My dad just happened to be out there, (but I don't remember that) and he went to get his stun gun and told me to go get Valerie. I told Taylor to throw rocks at the fox and not to hit Valerie. Finally my dad got back and gave the fox a little sting. Even though Valerie was safe, she was crying because she was still scared. After that we all went inside, and I haven't seen that fox since. In a way this is good and in a way this is bad because that was a beautiful fox.

One cold winter day Tiffany, Sara and I were playing outside. Then all of a sudden a fox jumped right in front of us! We ran towards the house, but I was stuck and the fox was heading straight towards me! Tiffany and Sara hit the fox with rocks to distract it long enough for me to get out. When I was out I took a good look at the fox. He was beautiful. He finally left and we did not play outside again.

One day I was walking on the tundra and I saw a huge herd of caribou. They started chasing me and I started running for my life! Then my cousin came with the four-wheeler and said “Come on Zack! Hop on!”
I hopped on and then we started chasing the caribou! What an adventure!

One time about a year ago my dad and I went on a snowmobile ride. We almost went up to the mountains. On our way we ran into the Mulchatna herd and it was huge! On our way back we went right through it! It was dark so we could barely see anything. Because they were running, they were kicking up snow. It was fun.

Once upon a time I was real little and we were out hunting. My dad and uncles were sneaking up on caribou. It was a big herd. We were by the bikes (ATVs) and the caribou turned around and they ran straight towards us! My cousins had 22 caliber rifles but they didn't shoot. The caribou saw us and went the other way towards my dad and uncles.

One time when my dad and I went hunting we saw a ground squirrel, also known as a parka squirrel. I chased it around for four minutes. Then we drove on and saw another squirrel. I tried to shoot at it but I missed it. Then we went home.

My family and I went to Anchorage for doctor appointments. I had only one appointment. My brother had lots. Well my brother has Downes Syndrome and he used to have a hole in his heart. He had open heart surgery while we were there. After a while I went back home to King Salmon, Alaska, because we were always in the hospital and there was nothing for me to do. When I was gone my Mom was outside and suddenly there was a moose! She tried to move back slowly but it charged her! She hid behind a tree and the moose went right by her and ran away. Afterwards she was really scared. Well that’s my story.

This one time my dad was out trying to teach his dog how to hunt. He said he saw a momma moose with her calf. He said he tried to sneak up on it to get a better look Then the moose charged him so he hid behind a tree. But the moose still kicked him with her hoof.

It was a very cold day. I was going out to South Spit on my four wheeler and I saw a wolverine climbing a hill right by me. I watched him for an hour. There were a bunch of feathers around the den. There was some blood on the ground by the feathers.

My dad, mom, brother and I were upriver in a skiff driving around. We stopped to try some fishing where they were jumping on shore. There was a boat upside down and it stunk like rotten fish. So we looked under it and there was a family of mink living under it. We gave them some of our fish. Travis
